This was my first book by this author. I didn't care for the book at all. Too crass and the book jumped right into lust. The main characters failing in love was unbelievable because everything was rushed. The story could have been better written and developed.

Marrying the Marine The Brides of Hilton Head Island edition by Sabrina Sims McAfee Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This is my first time reading this author's work, and while it was a pleasant read, it was very predictable to me.

The author described the first meeting between the main characters as one of lust, especially on his part. She was a virgin but somehow, I didn't see the relevance in repeatedly mentioning it. The dialogue described what he wanted to do to her sexually, in such graphic terms that it got redundant after awhile.

The second half of the book where he reopened her mother's murder was a bit more interesting but was still predictable. The only surprise was the gender of the baby, in my opinion. The fact that his ex was claiming that her son was his and he had doubts but never took precaution when having sex. The story seemed disjointed too.
I loved the storyline, so I gave it a 4. However, the following things were a bit distracting
-The "ALL CAPS" sentences that seemed like shouting for no reason.
-He "happened" to find a box in the library with all of the answers he needed about Sugar's death. An amazing investigator should have worked for the answers a little.
-Why didn't the paramedics help her mom? If she had time to give a message to her daughter, the paramedics had time to save her.
-If Bud Greene had his brain spattered by his father and the father was shot in the chest until he died, who was "going to spend the rest of their life in jail"?
-Looking for the right place to eat all the time was awkward. Why not just eat in the kitchen instead of finding the boat etc...
-preparing the food- stirring the greens, prep of the steaks or the smells of food is a way to let us know what the menu is without stating it so often.

This writer is better than most when it comes to a good storyline and character distinctions. She also remembered to let us see resolution to each problem that arose.
Braylon Wexler, sexy, rugged and handsome..prior military, he is a detective(he has means and money, he is just down to earth), he has just seen a woman who has awakened the thoughts of love, desire and sex. Can a man who was once jilted by love take a chance on love? Sandella Summers sexy, curvy and has a talent for sweets. She has no interest in romantic entanglement, but can the ever seductive and confident Braylon Wexler has her thinking dirty..dirty,delicious ..sinfully sexy thoughts. What can it hurt ,its just a lil sex. When pasts are revealed and the past comes to haunt the would be lovers...fate has other plans for them! A kiss and a promise and through it all Sandella dad isn't having his daughter with a marine..No way! With a killer on the loose, it's up to Braylon to make good on a promise. And then there is a HUGE elephant in the room, just when it looks like they were having their happily ever after. To say that I was thrilled to find Sabrina Sims McAfee, total understatement, the storyline was phenomenal as was the character development. Gave the book 5 stars, it has so much going for it drama, suspense, intrigue, romance, love and sex! This is everything you could want in a fascinating, mesmerizing contemporary romance! And to think I found Sabrina by accident, thank god for small favours. Nothing like a new and exciting find!!
Very interesting characters. While most complained about the "oh phooey", that didn't bother me as much. What I didn't like was how the male lead had a case of the Jekyll and Hyde's. One moment he's this gentleman who's so in love and cares so much about his woman, then literally in the same thought shifts to plotting how good he's going to pound and punish her. Its like all he thought about was sex. Don't even get me started on him hopping in the bed with someone with chickenpox...really? A few times I forgot there was a murder mystery to solve because every moment there's sex going on. When we finally get around to solving the mystery its rushed, making the resolution unsatisfactory. And I understand needing to move the story along, but the protagonists jumped in the bed together a little too soon. I know its realistic nowadays, but still, a little too quick for me. But then again I'm a romantic, so maybe its just me. This is my first read of the authors work, so I'm willing to give her work another shot.
This book was good for a freebie. It's hard to write this review without adding any spoilers but I'll do my best. The storyline was good but I had a hard time keeping up with the timeline. In the beginning the story seemed rather rushed but seemed to slow down as it went on. I didn't realize this book was an erotica novel until I got into which by then was too late. However, I did find the sexual dialogue between Braylon and Sandella to be very juvenile and vulgar taking away from the intended romantic aspect of the story. My biggest issue was the fact that after Sugar's murderer was revealed and the incident unfolded in high dramatic fashion, 2 or 3 pages later the author completely mixed up the details of the outcome, which to me ruined the ending of the storyline. Also there were so many unnecessary situations, incidents and mysteries introduced in this story in which we [the reader] never got any closure or clarification for. One would have to assume that one person committed all these heinous acts. This author's writing style is different than what I'm used to but all in all it was a good read. There were a few typos but not enough to cause me to put the book down. I also got 'Marrying The Millionaire' for fee and will be starting that soon.
This was my first book by this author. I didn't care for the book at all. Too crass and the book jumped right into lust. The main characters failing in love was unbelievable because everything was rushed. The story could have been better written and developed.
