Fight Night is a collection of three MMA romance stories. Even though they’re based around the same martial arts theme, they’re all quite different in setting and tone. Bruiser is the most heart-warming while Baller goes into darker territory.Nonetheless, they’re all worth reading. The chapters are short but paced well and have some surprising twists. The stories read quickly because you want to know what happens next. They’re also loosely connected with characters being mentioned from other stories but you don’t have to read them in a particular order.
Bruiser is almost a sexy retelling of the karate kid. It takes the perspective of two adults as they deal with a failing karate dojo. After discovering some unscrupulous business practices from the dojo’s previous owners, Ava wants to help Brandon save his karate school. What starts out as a business arrangement turns into a passionate romance. Brandon is the most vulnerable fighter in all the stories but that’s what makes him more endearing.
Tag Team stars not one but two men, Travis and Nikolai. What’s nice is that they’re friendly rivals with a personal relationship rather than sworn enemies. However, it’s Lyssa who steals the show. This woman is a sports reporter who will do anything to get the scoop. She is probably my favorite heroine of the three since she gets more of an active role in the plot. The story also has the best scenes of passion since there are two alpha males for her to deal with. It a quicker, more comedic read than the other two stories.
Baller has the baddest alpha male of the three stores. While Brandon in Bruiser is kind and humble, Baller’s Hannibal is a glory hound who gets suspended from his league. He’s hit rock bottom and needs to get back up. There’s also a hit of forbidden romance because the female interest, Kristen, is Hannibal’s stepsister. This story is the darkest of the three and gets into the seedier side of MMA fighting and sports betting.
I’d say Tag Team had the steamiest sex scenes but Bruiser had the best romance. The entire collection has something for everyone. I jumped in with collection #2 but I definitely want to check out the first collection.
